Here we have the 2017/2018 Hong Kong Premier League fixtures for Kitchee. These are still provisional and may be subject to some change but they should be more or less as printed.
Reduced to just 10 teams for this year, the Hong Kong Premier league is now 18 game season.
As you can see, Kitchee kick off the new season with a reverse of the final fixture of last season, facing old rivals Eastern at Mong Kok stadium. Whilst it may be a shame to have this fixture so early on in the season, it will give us an idea of both team's prospects. The Angry Boundary Street faithful will be hoping for a repeat of last season's 4-1 demolition to really set the yardstick for the rest of the year. The return fixture against Eastern isn't until January, good news for Kitchee as this is before the ACL fixtures kick in, by which time we should have a good sense of how the league is playing out.
Other stand out fixtures include the away match to GuangZhou R&F on Saturday 30th September. Combined with heavy investment over the close season and the fact that they can now play their home games in Guangzhou in a home stadium, many expect R&F to be a force this season, so it should be a cracking match. Angry Boundary Street will be hopeful of a large away following to that one and will be covering the match extensively on here. Following that is a difficult match versus Tai Po - I wonder if Lucas De Silva will make his old employers regret selling him.
Yuen Long is never an easy opponent and Kitchee travel there on 19th November. A fan's favourite for an away day, this is one that we are looking forward to. The reverse of that fixture isn't until the final day. Finishing the season against Yuen Long is also not a particularly easy prospect but Kitchee will be heartened that Eastern have to travel to Southern, another team who are usually pretty difficult to break down - especially at home.
Indeed, it was the away game in Aberdeen that nearly cost Kitchee dear last season (ending in a 1-0 defeat) and that fixture comes on the penultimate day of the season this time around. If Kitchee were to drop points here again (as they have in the last 2 seasons) then it should set us up for another nail biting final day.
We cannot wait for the season to begin now!
COME ON KITCHEE!
Charlie, HKPL reduces to 10 teams this season, not nine.
