WHO ARE YA?! WHO ARE YA?! Patrick Au Yeung

Due to the ineptitude of both HKFA and Guangzhou R&F, Kitchee do not have a game this weekend - leaving us here at Angry Boundary Street with very little to write about!!! As such, we thought we would resurrect a popular old feature - WHO ARE YA?!

This episode features Patrick Au Yeung. Patrick is originally from Hong Kong but moved to Canada in 1992. A keen fan of baseball back in Canada (where he is an accredited umpire), Patrick was introduced to Kitchee in 2014 and his interest in Hong Kong football started. He is a now a sports writer and reporter and part of the team at, popular local football website, offside.hk!

1. Why do you support Kitchee? I am impressed with Kitchee players’ professionalism and the loyalty of their fans who are known as Ultra Bluewaves. 2. When was your first Kitchee game? It was three seasons ago when I watched Kitchee for the first time during my six-month stay here in Hong Kong. However, it is a shame i cannot recall the exact date and the opposition. All I remember it was a game held at Mongkok Stadium. 3. Who is your favourite Kitchee player (ever)? Tough question, man! I'd go for Matt Lam, simply because he's Canadian as I am. We, as Canadians, always support each other! If I could have a second choice, it would be Alex Akande for sure. He is a player with class! 4. What is your most memorable moment/day as a Kitchee fan? That will undoubtedly be the last game of last season's HKPL campaign when they beat Eastern for the league title. What impressed me the most was seeing red flag hoisted at Mongkok Stadium, meaning the game was sold out! That doesn't happen a lot in modern era of Hong Kong football. I remembered my girlfriend and I queued for a good thirty minutes before the gate opened. That's madness. Who says Hongkongers don't love local football?!!! 5. What Was your worst day as a Kitchee fan? It went back to last season's ACL final playoff-round where Kitchee visited Ulsan Hyundai. On that day, I was in Taipei airport with my girlfriend, waiting for my flight back to Hong Kong, and we were able to find a link on the internet to watch the game live at an airport lounge. Kitchee played extremely well but lost in penalty shootout. Once Kitchee were eliminated, I totally broke down and started crying until I boarded the plane (I was sure many passengers saw me crying). I swear, it was the very, very first time tears came out because my supporting team lost. 6. Who do you hate more - SCAA or Eastern? Why? I wouldn't say as far as hating any club but I quite dislike Eastern, especially after last season's saga in which they distributed local fans tickets to employees of a Mainland China company, who pretended to be the loyal Eastern fans during the ACL group game against Evergrande FC. That's, for me, a betrayal act of the clubs to Hong Kong fans! 7. What Is your favourite Kitchee song? All Kitchee songs are great. However, my very favorite song is the club’s theme song “We Are Kitchee”, performed by local band C All Star – and its music video! 8. Prediction for this season? Seeing how the league has developed after three weeks of action, I dare to say Kitchee are too strong for the rest of the league, especially as the heavy-spending Eastern and R&F are yet failed to register a single point. It is difficult to imagine Kitchee not being able to defend their title. And for sure, they are one of the favorites to hoist one or two Cups (but not counting Community Cup, for sure)! My prediction will be the same – without any bias – to say Kitchee is the best team in the league!
